Dal 1 gennaio 2017 è entrato in vigore, su base volontaria, il nuovo RID 2017 (regolamento riguardante il trasporto ferroviario di merci pericolose). 

Il nuovo regolamento RID 2017 diventerà obbligatorio a partire dal 1 luglio 2017 (dopo il periodo transitorio della durata di 6 mesi(1 gennaio 2017 - 1 luglio 2017).
